Upon arrival at Duke University, we had the opportunity to visit Duke Hospital, where the well-organised healthcare system was impressive. Lectures and the hospital tour at Duke Hospital and Clinic enabled us to compare and contrast different elements of health care in Hong Kong and the US. The windshield tour to Durham downtown integrated hands-on experience with the knowledge learnt in lessons, giving us an in-depth understanding of concepts such as the social determinants of health. The programme also provided us with invaluable insights into the critical impact of health equity on society. We have come to appreciate the benefits of being part of a large, well-organised community with ample access to healthcare facilities.
