La Trobe University, Australia
Chan Tsz-ching|Year 3 Bachelor of Nursing (Full-time) student
My nursing exchange in Australia was life-changing, full of memorable experiences and deep cultural insights. I was impressed with the friendliness of the Australians, the chances offered every day to develop and learn, and experience the cultural and lifestyle diversity.
The visit to La Trobe University's Bendigo campus was one of my favourite memories, with incredible views of the Australian countryside during the two-hour train trip. I was welcomed warmly and felt the sense of community right away. The practical learning and student engagement in the Bundoora campus also stood out, as well as the excellent campus facilities. I was shocked to learn that the nurse-to-patient ratio at the local hospital and community centre was 1:4, demonstrating the importance of patient comfort and quality care in Australia. I had the chance to speak with local nurses, who discussed their holistic approach and the significance of both physical and mental health.
In terms of culture, I was delighted to take part in local activities, such as visiting the night market and trying Australian cuisine. I also enjoyed visiting famous sites, such as the gorgeous beaches and beautiful national parks.
Overall, my exchange experience has improved my knowledge of nursing, widened my viewpoints, and increased my respect for cultural diversity. I am incredibly appreciative of the people and insights I encountered and feel that in addition to improving my professional abilities, this experience has made me more sympathetic and culturally sensitive, and prepared me to face challenges.
