Project Empadurance 2025, China

Cherry Kiong|Year 3 Bachelor of Nursing (Full-time) student

I spent two weeks on exchange at the Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), with a clinical attachment at one of the Mainland’s top-tier teaching hospitals, The Peking University Third Hospital (PKU Third Hospital), under Project Empadurance 2025. This was a valuable opportunity to learn more about the Mainland’s practices and healthcare system and experience some of China’s history and culture.

The PKUHSC utilises technology to train their students, offering simulation labs and Augmented Reality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training for students to apply and improve their skills learnt from theory-based lessons. This is a good way to help nursing students be well prepared and collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.

Nurses from the PKU Third Hospital also gave lectures and provided us with guidance. PKU Third Hospital combines traditional Chinese and Western medicine, especially in pain management and chronic disease. I was grateful to be able to familiarise myself with this approach, which is becoming increasingly popular.

Overall, thanks to Project Empadurance, the staff of PKUHSC, PKU Third Hospital, and HKU, and my fellow exchange students, I had a fruitful and memorable exchange.
