Oulu University, Finland

Thomas Leung Hoyat|Year 3 Bachelor of Nursing (Full-time) student

I was proudly invited to join the HealthEduCom Lab at the University of Oulu. Its research team aims to revolutionise nursing education by integrating Extended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into clinical learning environments. I participated in several project meetings with international researchers about digital pedagogy within my two-week internship.

During the discussion, I shared my experiences as a nursing student and provided valuable suggestions to the research team. Inspired by the researchers, I am quite confident that XR and AI technologies can greatly benefit nursing education by creating a safe environment for simulation training and adaptive learning, using virtual patients. I also hope VR simulation can be applied to more clinical scenarios to prepare students for real-time practice, including developing skills in communication, collaboration, and decision-making.

I really appreciate the University of Oulu and HKU for offering me this unique opportunity, which has given me many new ideas and optimism about the use of XR and AI in nursing education and its potential for enhancing healthcare quality and patient safety.
