University of Aberdeen, Scotland

Wong Tsz-hei|Year 4 Bachelor of Nursing (Full-time) student

My exchange experience at the University of Aberdeen was eye-opening, enabling me to immerse myself in the culture and history of this vibrant city while studying at a respected institution.

One of the highlights was a city walk organised by the university, where we wandered through charming cobblestone streets and learned the story of Aberdeen. This walk felt less like a tour and more like a journey through time, and deepened my appreciation for Aberdeen’s cultural heritage. But it was the school tour that truly helped me feel at home.

The University of Aberdeen campus has a unique learning environment made up of a mix of modern facilities and historic buildings. Standing in front of the iconic King’s College, I admired its beautiful chapel and the ivy-covered walls and was inspired to think that I was walking the same paths as students from centuries ago.

The school tour also introduced us to the university’s focus on research and innovation, and the collaborative spirit of faculty members and fellow students. We met with both groups and attended lectures and workshops that allowed me to dive deeper into my subjects while connecting with peers from different backgrounds. This exchange of ideas enriched my learning and helped me appreciate the global perspective of the university.

Beyond academics, I enjoyed cultural experiences in Aberdeen, attending local festivals, trying traditional Scottish dishes, and even joining a ceilidh, where I learned some fun dances. These moments brought me joy and helped me feel more connected to the community.

Reflecting on my time at the University of Aberdeen, I see this exchange as about more than academics; it has also been a journey of personal growth. I gained a deeper understanding of cultural heritage, formed meaningful relationships, and developed a sense of belonging in a new place. This experience will surely influence my future, inspiring me to approach challenges with an open heart and a commitment to understanding different perspectives.
