New Peer Buddies Programme
The School’s new Peer Buddies Programme 2025 invites Bachelor of Nursing (BNurs) students to be peer mentors to newly admitted Bachelor of Science in Nursing [BSc(Nurs)] students, with a focus on non-local students. Peer mentors will guide and support their mentees to navigate academic challenges, foster personal growth, and integrate smoothly into the vibrant HKU community.
Supervised by our teachers, the Programme aims to connect students from diverse backgrounds in the School and provide a valuable platform to foster cross-cultural exchange, enhance academic and social support, and promote a sense of belonging. Moreover, peer mentors receive opportunities for personal growth, including enhancing communication and leadership skills, developing a sense of responsibility, and fostering professional development.
A briefing and orientation session was held recently by the Programme's teachers-in-charge, Dr Joanna Ko Kiu-ki and Professor Polly Li Wai-chi, who guided students on mentoring skills and cultural insights. Peer mentors were then grouped with their mentees to engage in open dialogue and start to build relationships. We are confident that both peer mentors and mentees will benefit from this enriching experience.
