Higher nursing education from pre-registration to post-registration,

produces graduates who are well-equipped to lead the profession

The School of Nursing of The University of Hong Kong is dedicated to raising the standards of nursing education
and improving the quality of nursing practice in Hong Kong. We place particular emphasis on high-quality primary
nursing education and nursing specialisation at the postgraduate level. Since we were first established, the School
has always shown enormous commitment to realising our vision to educate nursing leaders for our community.
Our goal is to provide a diversified and holistic nursing education that will prepare our graduates to become
            leaders of the nursing profession.

Specialisation in nursing is a significant trend. Today, many registered nurses pursue a master's or even doctoral
degree to advance their clinical skills. Our courses therefore include management and leadership skills, and
problem-solving and critical-thinking to equip our students with more effective analysis, evaluation, reasoning,
and decision-making skills for clinical practice at higher levels of responsibility and accountability. Ultimately, our
alumni provide high-quality nursing care services to the community. Given a great need for highly qualified and
knowledgeable nurses, the School offers Master of Nursing (MNurs) and Doctor of Nursing (DNurs) programmes.
Our MNurs programme provides opportunities for nurse graduates to prepare for advanced practice nursing in
keeping with the rapid changes in healthcare in Hong Kong. The DNurs Programme is designed for nurses who
aspire to provide leadership in advancing nursing practice, education and research. These two programmes emerge
from solely offering part-time mode to offering full-time option in 2020. In the same year, the MNurs programme
was the first of its kind to be selected for the University Grants Committee (UGC) Targeted Taught Postgraduate
Programmes Fellowships, with 30 MNurs local students to be awarded in 2021/22.
