Lille’s charming blend of historical architecture and vibrant street life was the perfect backdrop for my three weeks of intensive studies in French language and arts. The classes were challenging but engaging, with classmates from diverse backgrounds enriching our discussions. My time there was also about personal growth.
I attended a French film screening and was amazed by how much I could understand, even with my limited vocabulary. I connected with artworks by Van Dyck and Rubens at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, appreciating their cultural depth and the stories they told. I also engaged with locals—which was nerve-wracking yet rewarding. By my third week, homesickness faded, replaced by excitement because I could now contribute confidently in class, especially in discussions on contemporary French cinema.
Reflecting on these three weeks, I am grateful for the experience. The mix of language learning, cultural immersion, and personal growth has been transformative and I feel more connected to France and excited to keep exploring its language, cinema, and culture.
