Martin Ma Kai-hin|Year 3 Bachelor of Nursing (Full-time) student

Joining the Spanish Beginner Course at the University of Exeter was a life-changing cultural experience that broadened my perspective as a nursing student. The friendly and engaging learning environment made it easy to connect with peers and practice speaking.

A memorable experience was a role-playing exercise simulating patient encounters, where I could apply learning to real-life situations. I gained confidence introducing myself and asking basic health questions in Spanish, and deepened my understanding of cultural values affecting patient care.

Group discussions on healthcare systems highlighted how culture influences care delivery and patient relationships. Sharing findings with classmates enhanced our grasp of challenges and resources in different contexts.

Overall, the course enriched my knowledge of ethnic diversity in healthcare and equipped me with valuable language skills. I look forward to applying these lessons in my future nursing career, strengthening my commitment to compassionate, culturally sensitive care.
