Professor Chak-sing LauDean of MedicineThe University of Hong KongIt gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to the School of Nursing at HKUMed on its 30th anniversary!Drawing inspiration from the timeless wisdom of Confucius in The Analects (%u300a%u8ad6%u8a9e%u300b), the Master said: %u2018At thirty, I stood firm%u2019 (%u300c%u4e09%u5341%u800c%u7acb%u300d). How incredibly apt these words are as we see the School now standing strong and growing its roots firmly at 3 Sassoon Road. From a humble beginning in 1995 as a small department with 42 students, the School has blossomed into a distinguished nursing institution that commands respect and admiration on local, regional, and international fronts. I had the privilege of joining the Medical Faculty in 1992, three years prior to the School%u2019s establishment. I count myself among those lucky ones to have witnessed this remarkable growth firsthand. Throughout the years, the School has steadfastly pursued its mission to advance nursing education, research, and service while upholding a deep commitment to enriching humanity with great minds, hands, and hearts. As you delve into the chapters of this commemorative booklet, you will uncover the School%u2019s extraordinary journey over the past three decades and capture the beautiful spirit of commitment and compassion that has brought the School to where it is today. As we look to the future, I am confident that the School will carry forward this momentum, furthering its mission to serve, to lead, and to inspire for the betterment of humanity. Let me again congratulate our School of Nursing on this significant milestone. May there be many more to celebrate in the decades to come! 5
