The need for nurses to improve and sustain their competence and

expertise in clinical nursing practice has long been recognised

Since 2016, the School of Nursing at The University of Hong Kong has collaborated with the School of Health
Science at the University of Melbourne, and the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital to offer a three-year
programme in Clinical Nursing Education. The course is aimed at clinical preceptors, mentors, nurse educators
and practising nurses and offers a well-planned, tailored-made and evidence-based nursing clinical education.
Beneficiaries include staff from the Hospital Authority and the public and private health sectors in Hong Kong,
Shenzhen and Macau. Accredited local trainers have been trained by the University of Melbourne to enhance
safe and quality patient care. The large numbers of students completing the course have given positive
feedback. A generous charitable donation of HK$10 million from the Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation made the
course successful.
