Breastfeeding Research Influencing Health Policy and Attitudes to Enhance Breastfeeding SupportBreastfeeding is a cornerstone of infant nutrition and maternal health, offering lifelong benefits for both mother and child. At the School of Nursing, our researchers are at the forefront of advancing breastfeeding science, with a strong emphasis on implementation research and knowledge transfer to improve global health outcomes. Our multidisciplinary research focuses on understanding biological, social and structural determinants of breastfeeding practices. Through collaborations with local organisations and policy makers, we translate scientific evidence into actionable programmes that support breastfeeding initiation and continuation, particularly in low resource settings. Our research team%u2019s key projects include the development of the Breastfeeding Friendly Community Initiative to enhance breastfeeding support, assessments of public spaces and workplace policies that enable breastfeeding-friendly environments, and digital health innovations that provide real-time guidance to new mothers. We pioneered and developed the first Breastfeeding GPS app, ranked #3 in Hong Kong%u2019s app store, based on our evidence-based Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative and Breastfeeding Friendly Community initiative, now adopted by the Department of Health. Our research also informs global guidelines on breastfeeding promotion, contributing to policies that address disparities in breastfeeding rates worldwide. By integrating research into practice, the School of Nursing is committed to fostering sustainable health improvements through breastfeeding advocacy and policy. Our work exemplifies the role of academic institutions in bridging the gap between science and real-world impact, ensuring that every child has the best possible start in life. 43
