Smoking Cessation and Tobacco Control The smoking cessation models developed by the team have been proven to be effective through many randomised controlled trials and are widely disseminated and implemented worldwide. Regionally, we have established pioneering smoking cessation interventions and services in Mainland China and Hong Kong, nurturing nurses, doctors, pharmacists and other health professionals in setting up smoking cessation clinics/services, evaluating their effectiveness, and informing tobacco control policies. Internationally, we have been widely consulted and work with WHO on training and clinical practice guidelines for smoking cessation. HKU SCRT has established long-term cooperative relationships with government organisations, the Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health, Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society Kowloon, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and other community organisations. By generating evidence and fostering collaboration, the team always aim to translate discoveries into practice, reducing smoking-related health burdens in Hong Kong, the region, and worldwide.Tobacco is the world%u2019s deadliest preventable killer. Although Hong Kong achieved a historically low smoking prevalence of 9.1% in 2023, advanced scientific research is essential for providing evidence facilitating strategies to phase out tobacco and nicotine products in Hong Kong.HKU School of Nursing and School of Public Health have had a Smoking Cessation Research Team (HKU SCRT) conducting world-leading research and education programmes on tobacco control and smoking cessation for the last 30 years. The HKU SCRT investigates innovative and effective smoking cessation interventions and provides comprehensive community and clinical-based smoking cessation services for smokers of all ages. The team also established Hong Kong%u2019s first youth smoking cessation hotline and women%u2019s smoking cessation programme in 2005 to help specific groups of people quit smoking.
