Cancer and Palliative CareThe School is dedicated to conducting a broad spectrum of empirical, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research aimed at improving the lives of individuals affected by cancer. Our researchers%u2019 work spans critical areas, including physical activity, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), cognitive assessment, and end-of-life care. All our research reflects our commitment to advancing cancer care through innovative, evidencebased approaches.Using approaches like co-design and randomised controlled trials, our research team explores strategies to promote physical activity such as aerobic exercise, tai-chi, and qigong among cancer survivors, improving physical function, managing symptoms such as fatigue, cognitive impairment, and chronic pain, and enhancing overall well-being. For example, we conducted a randomised controlled trial to compare the effect of aerobic exercise and tai-chi to improve sleep disturbance of advanced lung cancer patients, with results being published in JAMA Oncology, showing that tai-chi demonstrating greater benefits. We also evaluate the efficacy and safety of CAM therapies like acupressure for symptom management and improving quality of life. Some of the interventions leveraged the mobile platforms including websites and instant-messaging to maximise transferability in the community. In addition, our team leads research to enhance end-of-life care, focusing on symptom management and psychosocial support for patients and caregivers. 33
