Advanced Training Programme in Clinical Nursing Education
- Programme Overview
-
The need for nurses to improve and sustain their competence and expertise in clinical nursing practice has long been recognized. The Programme, Beginners Workshops and Advanced Workshop Series offer well-planned, tailored-made and evidence-based nursing clinical education for practicing nurses, clinical mentors and preceptors as well as nurse educators of both public and private sectors in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. This is a collaborative effort between the School of Nursing at the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, a network of partner hospitals, and last but not least, the School of Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne providing expert instructors to deliver the programme. The Programme has been made possible through a generous charitable donation made by the Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation.
A series of three modules will provide theoretical underpinnings to best practices, an opportunity to explore teaching and learning concepts, an introduction to strategies for the implementation of summative and formative assessment and insights into the inter-play between health literacy, optimal quality and safety outcomes, and the application of teaching and learning strategies in the clinical and simulated environment.
A series of four modules will equip experienced nurse preceptors/mentors with advanced knowledge and skills required to effectively delivering clinical education. These workshops will provide an understanding of how to apply knowledge of the research practices, methodologies and a spirit of scholarly inquiry to motivate change in educational practices while driving improvements in patient care.
