The School is delighted to share that the HKU School of Nursing 30th Anniversary Lecture, one of the celebratory events to commemorate the significant milestones in our journey since its inception in 1995, was successfully held.  The School was honoured to have invited Dr the Honourable Ching-choi Lam, SBS, JP, Chairman, Council for Carbon Neutrality & Sustainable Development, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and Professor Peng Gong, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development), The University of Hong Kong as our officiating guests.  The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Professor Chia-Chin Lin, Director of the School, followed by opening remarks by Professor Gong and an officiating address by Dr the Honourable Ching-choi Lam.

Our distinguished speaker, Associate Professor Eugene Liu, Chief Sustainability Officer, National University Health System, National University of Singapore, delivered an inspiring lecture titled “Integrating Sustainability into Healthcare Practices”.  The discussion focused on the need for healthcare professionals to adopt sustainable practices in light of the industry’s environmental impact. Professor Liu highlighted various strategies, including green initiatives, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and the adoption of a circular economy model.  He also covered integrating green principles into clinical protocols, facility design, and supply chain management, as well as the role of policy in driving change and lessons learned from implementation.  The insightful presentation was well-received by the participants, and we were pleased to have a full house at the event.

In appreciation of his meaningful insights, Professor Chak-sing Lau, BBS, JP, Vice-President & Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health) and Dean of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, presented a souvenir to Professor Eugene Liu.

The event was joined by a number of distinguished guests, including our former School Heads, Professor Sophia Chan, Professor and Director in HKU Primary Health Care Academy / Senior Advisor to President's Office, The University of Hong Kong, and Professor Agnes Tiwari, Chairman, The Nursing Council of Hong Kong.  Also, in attendance were clinical partners from the Health Bureau, Department of Health, Hospital Authority Head Office, public and private Hospitals, as well as deanery and school directors from HKUMed.  The event was a true celebration of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the healthcare community.
