Research Faculty

Professor Wanrui Wei is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, The University of Hong Kong. Wanrui earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and her PhD in Nursing from Peking Union Medical College. She completed her postdoctoral training at Yale School of Nursing.

Prof. Wei's research focuses on cognitive ageing and dementia, with a particular interest in individual differences in cognitive vulnerability and resilience. Her work brings together cognitive reserve and stress biology to better understand these differences and inform personalized, non-pharmacological approaches to care.

Her intervention research focuses on music-based approaches for dementia care. She studies family caregivers' experiences with home-based music interventions and is exploring how physiological measures and digital technologies can support intervention personalization and evaluation. She seeks to translate these insights into culturally responsive interventions that can be adapted for wider use in everyday care. Her longer-term goal is to develop personalized, non-pharmacological interventions informed by research on cognitive reserve and stress biology. Through this work, she hopes to support cognitive health and emotional well-being in later life, and help older adults and their families adapt to the challenges of ageing and live well.

Prof. Wei collaborates with researchers in the United States, Sweden, South Korea and mainland China. She also holds a courtesy faculty appointment at Yale School of Nursing, with the academic title of Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing.
