  1. What is the Structure of Nursing Programme?

The Bachelor of Nursing programme comprises 44 courses undertaken over five years and prepares students for registration as general registered nurses with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong. The Programme includes six common core courses, twenty-six core courses, one Life Enrichment Learning course, seven practicum courses, three language courses and one elective course.

  1. Is there any double degree programme?

Currently we do not offer double degree programme for Nursing. However, students may wish to apply to pursue the Intercalated Programme in Master of Public Health in the 4th year of their studies.

  1. Do you focus on theory teaching or clinical practice?

Both theoretical knowledge and clinical practicum are of equal importance to our School.

  1. How many hours of clinical practicum are there for the programme?

There are 1,400 hours of clinical practicum for the 5-year BNurs Programme.

  1. In which hospitals are the clinical practicum being conducted? Are students required to follow the AM(A)/PM(P)/Night(N) shift system?

Our main teaching hospital is Queen Marry Hospital and students are required to practise as A/P shift. In Year 4/5, they may need to do the N shift as well.

Clinical placements will be arranged in

-Community Centres;

-Aged care Centres;

-Outpatient clinics;

-and Specialties in hospitals, including Medical and Surgical Units, Paediatrics Unit, Obstetrics Unit, Accident and Emergency Unit, Operation Theatre, and many more.

  1. Are there any student exchange opportunities?

Over the last few academic years, our students have been given opportunities to attend short term student exchange programmes in a number of renowned universities in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Sweden, Greece, Australia and USA.

  1. What is the admission requirement for JUPAS applicants? / Is it necessary to have science background for admission?

Candidates shall satisfy the following minimum requirements in HKDSE:

Level 3 in Chinese Language and English Language
Level 2 in Mathematics
Attained / Level 2 in Liberal Studies / Citizenship and Social Development
Level 3 in two elective subjects

Candidates without a science background will also be considered for admission. The School will provide Life Science Enrichment Programme to support students without science background. Also, an Academic Advisor will be assigned to every student in order to support their study and academic planning. 

In addition to satisfying the University entrance requirements, all applicants, both local and non-local, are required to have a good working knowledge of Cantonese at the time of admission.

  1. Do candidates who attended the interview have better chance of admission, and what is the weighting of the admission interview?

The admission interview is only one of the admission criteria. Only candidates who placed our BNurs as their band A choice will be invited to the interview on a selective basis. Both their interview scores and HKDSE results will be taken into consideration. Candidates are also recommended to provide other sources of supporting documents such as personal statement and referee's report for the School's reference.

  1. How to apply via the Sport Scholarship Scheme?

The Sports Scholarship Scheme offers an alternative admission path to the University for outstanding young men and women whose pre-university experience includes a significant commitment to the pursuit of sporting excellence as well as to their formal academic studies. To be eligible for the Sports Scholarship Programme, applicants must have (i) satisfied the minimum University entrance requirements for the year of admission; (ii) demonstrated exceptional sporting prowess; and (iii) met the entrance requirements for the particular academic programme of study as specified by and/or modified by the relevant Faculty.

  1. Will you consider students who do not put Nursing in Band A?

Students who put our Nursing programme in Band A will have priority in our selection process.

  1. How will the Nursing Programme selection committee choose between students who have the same HKDSE scores?

While considering students with the same HKDSE results, we will take into consideration of other factors such as their performance in interviews, the level of their elective subjects, their sub-scores in English or Chinese languages and so on.

Interview arrangements

  1. Is there an interview for JUPAS students applying for the 5-year curriculum? / Is an admission interview mandatory for all JUPAS applicants?

The admission interview is only one of the admission criteria. Priority for interview will be given to JUPAS applicants who placed HKU Nursing as their Band A.

  1. When will the interview be held?

Interviews for the JUPAS applicants will be held in June and July.

  1. Are the interviews conducted in the form of individual or group interview? What kind of questions will be discussed?

Interviews will be conducted in individual and/or group formats. Questions and scenarios which may or may not be relevant to the nursing profession will be discussed.

  1. What languages will be used during the interview?

The interview will be conducted in both English and Cantonese.
